Laura Rufin graduated from the University of South Alabama with a Bachelor’s of Science in Geology and has nearly 10 years of environmental and sustainability management experience. She began her career as a field geologist with Southern Company, the electricity provider for Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and North Florida working on ash pond closure, substation, and transmission projects. Then worked for Wood, a global construction company, as an Environmental Manager supporting a multi-billion dollar methane to methanol project and renewable energy projects nationwide. She is now employed at Southwest Cheese as the Environmental Manger focusing on environmental permit compliance, launching a sustainability program focused on meeting Zero Waste to Landfill by 2025 and 30% energy reduction by 2030 goals, and implementing the ISO 14001 management system.
