Topic To SIF or not to SIF: That is the Question
Join us on April 10th as we hear from Norman Ritchie on “To SIF or Not to SIF: That is the Question”. SIF (Significant Injury/Fatality) has recently been gaining traction as a method to determine on which incidents and potential incidents organizations should focus their limited resources. Norman Ritchie has been espousing this “new” method for more than two decades, considering both low-probability, high-consequence and high-probability, low-consequence exposures and taking into account the organization’s risk appetite. This discussion will show the audience how to determine if an incident falls into the SIF category or not, including allowing a focus on more than just injuries, as there is a slew of other types of “harm” that can be significant. It will also give guidance on how to identify where improvement efforts should be focused, whether on consequences or somewhere up or down the chain of causality.
