Speaker Katy Nelson, MS, ASHM
Consulting Specialist
BSI EHS Service and Solutions

Katy Nelson is a relatively recent convert to industrial hygiene and safety.  Katy started her career in laboratories doing analytical chemistry for oil and gas, working in refineries and research and development.  In 2016, Katy started her transition to industrial hygiene and safety by enrolling in the University of Houston – Clear Lake master’s program for Industrial Hygiene. She continued to work 40 hour weeks, take care of her two small children, and juggle her husband working shift work all while she went to school at night. After three long years Katy completed her master’s in May of 2019 in Occupational Safety and Health under the advisement of Dr. Phalen.  That same year Katy completed her transition to a career in industrial hygiene and safety by taking a job as a Consulting Specialist working for BSI EHS Service and Solutions in February. As a consultant she conducts investigations, sampling, monitoring, and assessments for various clients. The findings of these investigations, sampling, monitoring, and assessments are written in a technical report.
