Speakers

Steven Briggs

Steven Briggs is a seasoned industrial hygienist with 15 years’ experience working in industry.  He has manufacturing, chemical company and oil and gas experience.  Briggs currently works at Chevron Energy Technology Company as their Senior Occupational Hygienist.

Robert N. Phalen, PhD, CIH, FAIHA

Robert N. Phalen is the Program Chair and an Associate Professor of Occupational Safety and Health at University of Houston Clear Lake.  Dr. Phalen is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and a Fellow of the American Industrial Hygiene Association.  Dr. Phalen received his doctoral degree in Environmental Health Sciences from University of California, Los Angeles, with specialization in Industrial Hygiene.  His primary areas of research include industrial hygiene, chemical protective clothing and equipment, ergonomics, exposure assessment and air quality.  Dr. Phalen is a co-author of the book Air Pollution Science: A Public Health Perspective, published by the American Public Health Association, under Jones and Bartlett.  He is also well published in the fields of industrial hygiene and polymer science.  Prior to entering academia, he worked for an environmental and industrial hygiene equipment supplier, as an industrial hygienist and manager of loss prevention and control and as an ergonomist.  Altogether, he has over 25 years of experience in industry and academia.  Currently, he dedicates much of his time towards research, service to AIHA at the national and local level and helping shape aspiring health and safety undergraduate and graduate students into competent practitioners and professionals.

Funmi Omagbemi

Funmi brings both consulting and industry work perspective to our panel discussion.  Funmi worked for a consulting after graduating with your Master of Public Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Public Health.  Funmi has now transitions to industry work and is now an Industrial Hygienist with ExxonMobil in Beaumont.

Jan Koehn, MS, CIH

Jan Koehn has a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from Texas A&M University and her Master of Science in Industrial Hygiene and Toxicology from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.  Jan has owned her own industrial hygiene consulting business for 32 years and brings her business and technical view of industrial hygiene to our panel discussion.
